Volcano Vaporizer Overview

While the Volcano Classic set the stage for vapor innovation, the Volcano Hybrid is the new kid on the block everyone is talking about. Whether you’re into a direct-draw inhale or like the balloon experience, this desktop marvel sports first-class design and impressive features.

Volcano Manufacturer

Storz & Bickel vaporizers have a reputation for being some of the best in the industry, and it’s well deserved. This German manufacturer fuses electromechanical design, high-quality materials, and superior craftsmanship for durable, long-lasting products.

Who is the Volcano for?

New and seasoned vape connoisseurs can appreciate the proven durability, medical-grade components, and multiple delivery options, all topped off with state-of-the-art programming features. While the quality is for everyone, the $700 price tag may not be.

One Device, Two Systems

The new rotatable tube system offers a second inhalation method beside the classic easy valve balloon. The upgraded heating method is said to produce thicker, more flavorful vapor clouds.

The Value of a Volcano

This level of quality doesn’t come cheap. While your wallet might be a little lighter, you are gaining reliable German engineering with quicker extraction and programmable features you won’t find anywhere else.

Using the Volcano

The reliability of any Storz & Bickel device is about as perfect as you can get. Improving upon the Classic, the Volcano Hybrid boasts accelerated airflow, faster heat-up times, touch display, remote temperature control, and an innovative dual inhalation system.

Vapor Production and Airflow

The Volcano Vaporizer Hybrid still includes the iconic Volcano balloon but adds a direct-draw whip for smooth, high-quality hits. The amount of vapor produced will depend on the quality of cannabis and if you are using a dosing capsule, full chamber, or chamber reducer.

Volcano vaporizer reviews report that the redesigned hybrid heating method helps produce thick, flavorful, high-potency vapor. Lower temperatures create a barely visible vapor that ignites the taste buds. As the temperature rises, the taste of cannabis decreases, but the vapor becomes thicker for full, fluffy clouds. With luxurious clouds and a little practice, you may even be able to incorporate some fancy vape tricks into your repertoire.

Cleaning the Volcano Vaporizer

Not only did Storz & Bickel create a tabletop masterpiece, but they also made it easy to maintain. All components of the Volcano vaporizer’s filling chamber should be cleaned regularly to ensure it continues to work properly and the flavor stays pure.

The Right Tools for the Job

To clean the Volcano, you will need 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, soap, warm water, and the cleaning brush included with the original vaporizer kit.

The Base Station

The Volcano must be shut off and completely cooled down before you start cleaning. It is recommended to avoid using harsh chemicals on the base and instead wipe it down using a soft cloth. Turn the base upside down to check if the air filter needs to be replaced, then give the whole thing a little shake to dislodge any session leftovers trapped inside.

The Filling Chamber

The filling chamber and cap should be disassembled and manually cleaned using either rubbing alcohol or a damp cloth soaked in warm water. The dishwasher can be used, but you risk losing the smaller pieces. The manufacture recommends letting the pieces completely dry before reassembling and not soaking any pieces in alcohol for longer than an hour.

The Balloon & Valve

The easy valves and balloons are designed to be thrown away. The manufacturer recommends replacing these pieces every two weeks for hygienic reasons. The easy valve with adapter is meant to be cleaned and reused. Simply remove the mouthpiece from the balloon and wash it with some hot, soapy water.

Note: After Storz & Bickel released a statement in February 2020 regarding an issue with the Volcano Hybrid filling chamber, they are providing free replacement inserts to fix the problem.

Volcano Warranty and Accessories

The Volcano Hybrid vaporizer has a three-year warranty. Accessories include an easy valve balloon with a mouthpiece, an easy valve balloon with an adaptor, one tube system, one filling chamber (which consists of a cleaning brush, screens, and drip pad), an air filter set, and a cannabis grinder. You can also buy dosing capsules, a filling set for dosing capsules, and a filling chamber with a dosing capsule adapter. For those who want to vaporize even smaller amounts of cannabis, you can use a compatible third-party filling chamber.

Volcano Classic vs Volcano Hybrid

Volcano Classic vs Volcano Hybrid

While the Volcano Classic is still an excellent, well-designed vaporizer, the Volcano Hybrid is a considerable upgrade. The Classic has a narrower temperature range, analog controls, and doesn’t offer a direct draw. The Hybrid’s digital display is much more sophisticated, showing set and current temperatures. In contrast, the Classic only displays numbers one through nine, which correspond with certain temperatures outlined on a chart.

The Volcano Hybrid is simply a more advanced, functional, and efficient way to vape. If you can afford to throw down $700, this piece is definitely worth the investment. If you want the digital display but don’t need the rest of the bells and whistles the Hybrid offers, a used Volcano Vaporizer could be an option, especially since Storz & Bickel also no longer produces the Volcano Digit.

Storz & Bickel: Lighting the Way Since ’96

Storz & Bickel is a well-known, long-time manufacturer of medical-grade herbal vaporizers based in Tuttlingen, Germany. They are famous for the Volcano product line. When the Classic hit the market in 2000, it changed the way people vape and set the standard for desktop vaporizers. Aside from the Volcano lineup (which are all desktops), they make the Plenty desktop and two handheld vaporizers: Mighty and Crafty+. Storz & Bickel offers direct shipping from their factory in Germany or their office in Oakland, California. You can also find their products featured on a variety of online vaporizer stores.

The Reinvention of an Icon

For first-time buyers, the Volcano Hybrid is a fantastic, long-term investment from a company known for high-quality products and enduring German design. For someone who can afford the price point and regularly uses a vaporizer, the Hybrid seems to be one of, if not the best, choices on the market. For the Storz & Bickel enthusiasts who already own the Volcano Classic or the Volcano Digit, you may need to do some more digging to figure out if the price is worth the actual feature upgrades. Finding a used Volcano Vaporizer could be a great option for those with less money to throw around.
