How to Spot Low-Quality Cannabis

If you’re new to marijuana, you may not be aware of what low-quality products look like. Unfortunately, there’s a lot out there in both the legal and black market.

In most cases, low-quality weed stems from a plant being cured and dried incorrectly. When placed in these conditions, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will typically break down into large sums of cannabinol (CBN). Such a process will undoubtedly screw with your high.

Beyond this factor, low-quality cannabis will also:

  • Be harsh to smoke (cause a coughing fit)
  • Be poorly trimmed or manicured
  • Become brown or reddish (little to no green)
  • Carry pesticides, mold, mildew, and other contaminants
  • Contain few trichomes
  • Contain lots of seeds
  • Crumble effortlessly
  • Have poor aroma (potentially musky)
  • Not be dense

Again, the quality of cannabis isn’t necessarily determined by the strain. Instead, it’s a factor of the manufacturer. That said, the following list is simply our opinion – it’s very possible strains mentioned here can be properly cultivated to a high-quality standard.

5.) Blue Widow

Blue Widow is a strain that mixes White Widow and Blueberry. With a name like that, it comes with a blueberry and citrusy flavoring that goes hand-in-hand with edibles. On top of this, it’s quite a popular strain for medical patients, with many claiming it helps in the treatment of chronic pain, backaches, and muscle cramps.

The difficulty with Blue Widow is it contains a low THC measurement, around 12% to 17%. That said, this is not necessarily a bad strain, but certainly one that lacks potency. With this lack of potency, you likely won’t be receiving any good deals when purchasing this strain.

Still, if you’re new to cannabis or simply find that high THC potencies are too much, Blue Widow may be an option for you.

4.) Mango Pina

A marijuana strain that dates back to the 1960s, it may come as a surprise this has made it to the list of the worst marijuana strains. The difficulty with Mango Pina is the fact that it’s not that strong – usually resulting in mild relaxation.

If you’re looking for a strain that tastes like mangos, you may be better off with other options, such as Mango Kush and Hindu Kush. Both of these strains are much stronger than Mango Pina and will undoubtedly provide you with much more relaxation.

3.) Madman OG

Unlike the previous two contenders, Madman OG is quite potent – containing 16% to 24% THC. This is because it’s a cross between two potent breeds: OG Kush and LA Confidential.

The reason Madman OG is on our list is due to the high it induces. Many people have reported feeling extremely anxious from this strain. In small doses, this may not be noticeable. Yet, in larger doses, it’s guaranteed you’ll experience negative thought patterns or even a headache.

If you’re an anxious person, you should stay away from Madman OG at all costs. If you find marijuana is causing too much anxiety in general, you may be more interested in using a CBD oil for anxiety.

2.) Cat Piss

If the name isn’t enough to convince you this isn’t a good marijuana strain, maybe the contents of the plant will. Cat Piss has very low levels of THC – usually around 11%. And while it is a Sativa, the head high feels quite lazy compared to other Sativa strains.

However, it also needs to be noted that this name doesn’t come from nowhere. Upon opening a baggie of Cat Piss, you may just get smells that are exactly as the name recommends.

1.) Pablo's Gold

As a Sativa-dominant strain, Pablo’s Gold has made a name for itself through its ability to induce high levels of energy and uplifting feelings. On top of that, it even has a decent potency of 17% to 20%.

However, you may be surprised to find out that this strain is often prescribed for insomnia. The reason is once the energy dies out, you are EXTREMELY tired. To the point where it may be difficult to keep your eyes open.

That said, Pablo’s Gold doesn’t provide most people with what they’re looking for in a cannabis high. It doesn’t ease you into a peaceful rest and it does give you the type of energy you can get things done with. Instead, it sends your thoughts through a spiral of psychotropic effects and then suddenly turns out the lights.

Final Word

Again, our list of the worst strains ever is simply our opinion. Since marijuana affects everyone differently, there’s a solid chance you’ll find other strains to be unfavorable for you.

For example, if you struggle with very bad anxiety, you’re naturally going to find high-quality Sativa strains overwhelming. As a result, low-quality Indica strains (such as Blue Widow) may just be up your alley.

When it comes to finding the right strain for you, it requires experimentation. And the best way to go about these experiments is to start slow and gradually increase your dosage.
